The sun shone and the turn-out was great for the 2024 Season-Opener, held on Saturday May 11. Thanks to all who made it happen. PrIzes, great food, fun drills, mixed play, and shirt-peddling were all on the agenda.
Not on the agenda, and unbeknownst to NTC vice president Keith Bridger and director of memberships, Tammy Wright, was an impromptu “ribbon” cutting ceremony for the new facility centre, for which we now have the occupancy permit. They were given a framed photo of Keith and Rob Wright, who sadly passed in 2021. The picture was taken on the new courts when the facility centre was mere pencil lines on paper. The diamond duo led the charge to partner with the School District to revitalize the abandoned courts and develop the multi-use facility—and were at the forefront of the massive volunteer effort to get everything built. Their contributions with the Nelson Tennis Club were partly why they were jointly named Nelson Citizen(s) of the Year in 2021.
At the Season Opener, prize donations were gratefully accepted from Nelson Car Wash, Golden Set International, Vince DeVitos, and various NTC board members. Thank you!
